The Cat and The Mouse:
Once, long ago, there was a cat. He was a fussy, greedy cat and he lived in the middle of the forest amidst tall pine trees and LOVED to catch mice more than anything in the world. Sleeping in a basket in an old man’s kitchen, he kept guard whenever the man went out, and loved to catch the fattest mice in the forest. It was all he ate. One morning, the man went to the nearest village, and the cat stalked the kitchen.
Some mice raced around the corner, and the cat raised his paw, grinning his biggest grin. The mice squeaked in terror, all but one. The plumpest one. Suddenly, the cat turned on the mouse and the rest scattered. Of course, he chose the fat one. Racing around the corner, the plumpest mouse skidded to a halt and tucked himself into a hole. “Come out little mouse. I want to eat the plumpest mouse in the forest!” he cooed. But, of course, the mouse did not move or squeak. Not even the tiniest bit…
So the cat returned to the kitchen, his tummy rumbling and aching. He had no food…and he went to bed hungry.
Moral: Don’t be fussy or greedy, just appreciate what you are given.
That is a good moral Bethany. It is important to appreciate what we have been given and be grateful. Are there any exceptions to this do you think?
I really like the word ‘amidst’, a really creative way to describe what you are saying. How did the other mice feel as they were rushing around? I wonder how you could use some brackets in your writing to give extra information. Good effort Bethany, I enjoyed reading your fable. 🙂
